Sugar Cookies

Kyle and I decided to make sugar cookies. And make cookies we did!

Be warned, this recipe makes lots, and lots, and lots of cookies!

Cookies

1 1/2 cup butter
2 cups sugar
4 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
5 cups flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt

Cream butter and sugar until smooth
Beat in eggs and vanilla
Stir in flour, baking powder, salt
Cover and chill for 1 hour
Preheat oven to 400(ish)
Bake cookies 6-8 minutes

Icing

1 cup powder sugar
2 tsp. milk
2 tsp. corn syrup
1/4 tsp. almond extract

Stir sugar and milk until smooth
Beat in syrup and almond extract until smooth and glossy
(we ended up adding more milk, and then more sugar, and then more syrup for extra glossiness...it's not rocket science)

Kyle was pretty meticulous with his cookies making sure that the icing did not overflow onto the sides and it was spread evenly. The bells were blue, the stars were yellow, the trees were green.

I was not quite that neat and tidy. I had icing everywhere. We joked that when we have kids we'll make sugar cookies. Daddy will be showing them how to ice their cookies delicately and with the appropriate colors. Mommy will be covered in icing yelling "orange snowmen!"

It was a bit messy but well worth it!

p.s. is anyone else's signature acting silly? mine's not showing up.

  4. Making sugar cookies is the pinnacle of awesomeness for me. My Mom disliked making them when I was a kid so I don't have much practice. Yours look soooooo good.

My signature wasn't working last night , it was working this morning, and NOW, it's not appearing. :)
