Keeping Perspective

I work at a university which means that this time of year is busy for me. I mean super duper crazy busy.

As I write this I am gearing up for a week of RA training where I train my staff on how to run our hall. A full week of 14 hour days that leads right into our students coming back!

Edit: Training is over and all 420 of our students have moved in. Let the craziness begin!

Although I absolutely love my job, it's easy to get run down and, in the tasks of every day, lose perspective.

Here are a few things I'm going to try to remember.

1. God is always there

Even when we don't feel/see/hear Him, He is all around us. I think that He might be even closer in those busy times when we really need His reminders.

God understands that there are times in our lives where we are going to get caught up and overwhelmed and exhausted. He's there with us through it, cheering us on.

2. Be grateful


There are so many thinks to be thankful for. Don't let your busy schedule get in the way of taking a few minutes to tell your hubby you love him, making a quick call to someone you care about, or reflecting on the many blessings of the day. My job is such a blessing, and even when it gets busy busy busy, it is absoutely part of God's provision and purpose for my life.

3. Greet the morning with a smile


I am so not a morning person.
I love sleeping. I hate waking up.

But alas, every time that alarm clock goes off I try to be grateful for the sunrise, new opportunities, and everything that comes with the morning.

"Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed,
   for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning"
Lamentations 3:22-23

4. Give it to God

You know that bible verse about how we shouldn't worry for tomorrow? Well, although it's easier said than done, we shouldn't worry about tomorrow or the next day or the day after that.

I know you always hear "let go and let God," but it is true. A bit cheesy, but very very true.

Being busy is absolutely unavoidable and nessary, but it isn't what we're doing, but how we react that makes all the difference. I challenge you to greet your busy days with a smile, put your best foot forward, and show your calendar who's boss!

  1. You are such a positive person! It's so awesome that God has you where you are--being around hundreds of college students who are just trying to get by and learn "who they are." Keep shining, girl!
