Sewing Reveal

The campus craft studio hosted a 3 hour sewing class last night. It was the best $10 I've ever spent. They provided machines, but I brought my own so that I could learn all the bells and whistles. I brought it in the box, with the packaging, never opened. It was actually quite comical.

We learned how to wind the bobbin, thread the machine, and how to sew a straight-ish hem. After some other exercises, the instructor gave us some project options. Because I am a purse-aholic, I chose to make a tote bag.

Here it is!

On the front (although it's hard to see) I attached a double pocket. I used what I refer to as webbing for the straps.

I was so proud of myself. You should have seen me when I came home. I was giddy!

I wanted to spice up my bag, so I sewed a little flower and added a pretty button.

I am amazed at how simple it was (once I got the thread and fabric and peddle and fingers all working together).  I know that it's not the most impressive thing in the world, but I sure am happy with it.

  1. How wonderful for you! I look forward to the day when you can send your little ones out the door on October 31st in their very own "made by mom" costumes! That is about how far I ever got with my machine!

    Love and miss you.

  4. Awesome job! I love the fabric!

I'm thinking of enrolling in a sewing class locally. I sew a lot, but I've never formally learned. =) So, sewing a straight line is still a stretch.
